SEND Introduction

At Our Lady Mother of the Saviour Primary School, we value every pupil equally and are committed to providing a broad, balanced and inclusive curriculum. While most children thrive with high-quality classroom teaching, some require additional support. These children are identified as having Special Educational Needs or Disabilities (SEND).

We believe every child deserves their individual needs to be understood and supported. Our staff work together to set realistic, achievable goals and provide an engaging, age-appropriate curriculum, enabling each child to reach their full potential.

At Our Lady’s, we nurture the whole child. Our teaching supports not only educational progress but also social, emotional, cultural and spiritual development, ensuring all children feel valued, included, and empowered.

Further information can be found in our SEND Information Report and SEND Policy.

SEND Identification

We aim to identify children’s needs as early as possible to provide the right support at the right time. The four broad areas of need, as outlined in the SEND Code of Practice (0–25 years), are:

  • Communication and Interaction

  • Cognition and Learning

  • Social, Emotional and Mental Health

  • Sensory and/or Physical Needs

By working closely with families, we ensure every child receives tailored support to help them thrive.

SEND Support

We follow a graduated approach to SEND support:

  • In-class support: Small group work, interventions, visual aids and scaffolds.

  • School-Based Support Plan (SBSP): Individual targets and strategies for each child, reviewed regularly through Assess, Plan, Do, Review.

  • External Support: If additional expertise is needed, we work with professionals such as:

    • Speech and Language Therapists

    • Educational Psychologists

    • Specialist Teaching Advisory Service (STAS)

This multi-agency approach ensures early intervention and high-quality, tailored support.

SEND Community

We value strong partnerships with families. Parents and carers are actively involved in:

  • Developing and reviewing termly SBSPs

  • Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs)

  • Parent evenings and additional meetings with the SENDCo

Our goal is to ensure families feel informed, supported, and included in their child’s journey.

Medical Needs

We support pupils with medical conditions so they can fully participate in school life. Individual Healthcare Plans are created where necessary and staff are trained to safely manage medical tasks or medication.

Accessibility and Inclusion

Our curriculum is designed to be accessible to all pupils. We actively remove barriers to learning so every child can participate and achieve their potential. Our Accessibility Plan details how we:

  • Support pupils with additional needs

  • Improve access to the curriculum and school environment

  • Ensure information is accessible to all members of our school community
